Uniforms provide almost no benefits whatsoever. ... If...

    Students should wear school uniform.

We should be focusing on the performance of the students rather than the way they are dressed. Uniforms provide almost no benefits whatsoever. The only valid benefit for Uniforms provide almost no benefits whatsoever. The only valid benefit for school uniforms is the safety they bring. They prevent outside intruders from entering the school unannounced and they make it easier to spot a student that is lost. Even so, most schools have scanner machines so that students can use their school district ID's to sign in. If someone that was not a student at the school happened to trespass, they would be caught immediately. Personally, I think dress codes would be better. They allow students to wear want they want and to be creative, but still restrict students to wear only school appropriate attire.

I have clearly won this debate because in debate.org...

    School Uniform

I have clearly won this debate because in debate.org rules if you miss a round you automatically lose, but I will still talk about school uniforms. Kids everyday are getting bullied and cloths are a big part of that. Also it saves a ton of money they can have more class field trips and do more school activities.

I believe that uniforms should not be necessary, as...

Every school must have a uniform

I believe that uniforms should not be necessary, as having unique and different clothes lets a student express themselves, and be comfortable, and also to have the responsibility of having their own choices, and not be just put into the same group as everyone else, wearing the same clothes. It is very similar to freedom of speech, students should be allowed to wear what they want, within reason, and also saves the families of students money as school uniforms tend to be expensive. Also, just to shed some light on this. For older students nearing the end of school, how can we expect them to make important life decision when they can't even choose their own clothes?

A poor family could at least afford 249$ for one kid, and...

Students should be required to wear school uniform.

Thank you for your arguments. As your 1st argument, that it will violate students' freedom of expression, may be true, it can be true in a harmful way. For example, this will stimulate the popularity hierarchy once students could dress whatever they want. The ones with the fancy clothes could easily become the top dogs of the school, which wouldn't happen if uniforms were banned. And the 1st amendment says that yes, there may be freedom of expression, but then why don't we ban uniforms altogether? There are lots of private schools out there that still use uniforms. Why don't we just ban uniforms in those schools? As for your 2nd argument, yes, uniforms are expensive, but normal clothes that popular girls and boys buy to show everyone that they are "cool" are also expensive, maybe even more. They buy them in loads. Open any girl's wardrobe and you would find tons of dresses and jeans that would cost much more than 249$, I can assure you. And besides, even if some students do not buy so much clothes, this is still only a one-time thing. They just need to buy it once, and that is it. For just 249$ a kid, we could substantially improve our national debt. A poor family could at least afford 249$ for one kid, and if they can't (which is highly unlikely) they will not be denied the opportunity. The school could pay for them. And finally, for your last argument, that it causes bullying, that is highly unlikely as students will not wear the uniform outside of school. If students want to express themselves, which you had said yourself, then they wouldn't wear the uniforms unless required. Therefore students would only wear them inside school. And even if this is not true, our nation isn't so corrupted that fistfights and riots would break out just because of uniforms. And bullying is mainly inside a single school, not a rival school student picking on another school student. No one would bully a stranger that they don't even know, unless they are a gang member, and gang members don't go to school. Before I end, I would like to add to my previous contentions. Since you have not given me your opinions on my contentions, I assume you agree with me. If not, then please tell me why you do not believe so. 1. Discipline/honor It creates a discipline needed for the real world, and it also gives the atmosphere a more honorable feeling. Students would feel more honored to don their school uniform. It creates a sense of pride. 2. Eliminates popularity system By closing the gaps between the well-dressed students and the poor-dressed students by giving them all a mutual uniform, we are making friendship more easier. A common barrier of friendship is popularity, and popularity is partly caused by clothing. Once students all wear the same uniform, they can accept others for their inside, not outside. 3. Lastly this generates revenue for the government. As my opponent has kindly stated, uniforms cost 249$. Imagine all the schools in the country, with huge numbers of students enrolling, multiplied by 249$. That can generate pretty big revenue. And while this can inflict some financial damage to poor families, it truly does not really hurt them, as 1. They should be able to scrape at least 249$, and 2. if they can't the school will pay for them. Thank you.

Does that mean teachers should wear uniforms too? " ......

    All schools shouldn't have uniforms

Contention 1: "While ... Does that mean teachers should wear uniforms too? " My opponent makes a non sequitur. Firstly, a dress code, a strict one might I add, is present in all formal establishments for the people that work there. Additionally, the repercussions for dressing in an immature or unprofessional way for a teacher can be very detrimental to their financial life. To state that a student's role in the school is equatable to the teacher's role, and that both have the same responsibilities and expectations is an absurd statement indeed. Contention 2: "Also... and do not affect the school at all." If parents are not able to procure a uniform for their students, than the state can pay for it at the taxpayer's expense. Additionally, it's much cheaper to buy 1 full set of a uniform that the student wears for the remainder of the year than to buy multiple sets of clothes that are switched out. Note that I have shortened the statements in the quotations due to the lack of room to write.

    All schools shouldn't have uniforms

I accept my opponent's aforementioned propositions and will debate them willingly. As per the rules of debating, I shall create a set of axioms that should be followed. However, I would like to mention that it is direly unfortunate that my opponent has restricted the character count to something so small. Rules: 1. No plagiarism 2. No trolling 3. Stay on topic 4. Try to stay away from Anecdotal evidence The rest of the rules are implicitly stated, as it's self-evident that some things will not stand in a debate. Due to it being a 3 round debate, I will give some of my propositions here. Assertion 1: I would find that school uniforms facilitate unity in composition and also faciliate learning, as it's quite evident that certain styles of dressing can show signs of a lack of intelligence, manners, and will distract other students from learning as well. Additionally, I would propose that uniforms can be chosen by each school's administration as to if the dress code will be relaxed or not.

Just take for example the cross they bore on their right...

That public schools should enforce uniforms

No problems have ever resulted from uniforms. and if they have, my opponent should give me them. Since casual wear has been known to cause problems I urge your vote. What you don't understand is that if you do enforce uniforms, people cant afford it and will obviously do something desperate to get it leading to more problems. What I understand is uniforms are designed to be cheap. To solve the economic problem. That was the main point of uniforms. True, the Nazi were remembered for their killing but also the uniforms. Just take for example the cross they bore on their right arm. Whenever we see that cross we think of the Nazi's and Hitler. So, we should take away military uniforms because they entitle too much power? When we neglect uniform we do not neglect equality because how can you achieve equality by FORCING uniforms on to people that's supposedly going to stop stereo types. Voting rights for blacks were forced upon people. Is that a lack of freedom? Uniforms do carry power because they represent the authority that chose it. So, Taco Bell is going to take over the world because of their uniforms. When I walk into Taco Bell, I don't think that the uniforms are a sign of evil. It's organized. My opponents rebuttals are based on that uniforms are designed to destroy freedom. Uniforms are used everyday at work. Why? To represent unity. Not evil.

However, it is not gone as some people would have you...

    Students should wear uniforms.

Exactly, and just about all clothes are distracting. Though if you're all wearing the same thing there is nothing interesting to distract you. I would like to point out that you are extremely close to a fallacy by the fact that this is not about free speech, this is school uniforms, and I will slightly concede that there is a extremely slight loss of personality. However, it is not gone as some people would have you believe, and besides, if a student truly needs clothing to express themselves, they honestly probably don't have that much to express, I realize that sounds outrageously rude but it's true. If you would be so kind as to refer to my post in the comments section, you will find a extension on this, the comment reads that it is directed towards 'superburit0'. Thank you.
