See number 3 6. ... It seems silly to use a blanket...

Private Schools Should Have Their Students Wear Uniforms

The patrons of private schools should be the ones to decide if they want to send their students to a school with uniforms or to a school without these uniforms so their children can learn to handle peer pressure in a controlled environment. 2. Parents should be able to judge if their child is having trouble focusing and is likely to be distracted by clothing. 3. Parents and their children should have the right to decide if they want to implement this band-aid solution to bullying or not. 4. Parents and school staff should be able to the safety benefits of uniforms are worth it. 5. See number 3 6. This is the most ridiculous claim I"ve ever read. Regardless, the patron families should decide for themselves if that"s a valid concern or not. 7. Again, risk management should be up to the parents to assess. As a side note, I will say that uniforms are more commonly found in higher SES schools, so any correlation between uniforms and benefits that might be due to being a nicer school in general should be studied in a controlled, longitudinal manner. There are neighborhoods where gang violence is a problem and neighborhoods where it"s not. It seems silly to use a blanket solution for a wide variety of neighborhoods where the families living in them are most capable of diagnosing what they need and what they don"t. The nature of a private institution is one in which it can decide for itself what its policies are, as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others.

Wear your own clothes in the cold! ... Tell me that isn't...

    School Uniform Should Be Banned

Thanks for responding so quickly. During this round I'm going to be refuting your R1 points, and in the next round I'm going to be defending my own case from attacks that you've made, if you made any. ----- Rebuttals: "First of all, pupils should be able and should be encouraged to express themselves and be creative with what they wear" First, what is more important: having the ability to wear a t-shirt, or having the ability to deter crime massively? Second, you will still have the ability to decorate your clothes in moderation. Obviously you cannot scorch weed leaves into your outfit, but if you want to tuck up your sleeves or wear your hair a certain way, or have a certain bow, then that should be okay. School uniforms do not diminish the outlet for creativity. "Own clothes are more comfortable and in the cold, school uniforms aren't warm enough" The definition of school uniforms isn't cold, miserable clothing, it's just a strict set of guidelines for someone to wear at school. Wear your own clothes in the cold! Nobody is keeping you from doing that! But once you are in school, you should just wear the uniforms, since they have so many advantages. "Surely we can wear badges to say which school we are from, especially on school trips!" wat.png "If we are comfortable wearing our own clothes in class we should be able to focus better in class." I don't really like being that guy, but what's your source for this? I have a card in my case that says that uniforms actually INCREASE productivity and attentiveness during class, so we must render your argument invalid. "School uniform can be very expensive as compared to our own clothes as well as if not washed quick enough it can pose a real problem." Not if the school pays for them, which I suggest to every single school that is considering having uniforms. "No matter what you dress students who bully others will always find a reason to do so" Look at my third contention, then get back to me with this argument. But seriously,60% less bullying occurs as a direct result of implementing uniforms. Tell me that isn't good... "Making everyone wear the same clothes is not going to make the problem magically disappear."

They can't necessarily afford nice clothing. ... Thank...

    Uniforms For Schools

Ok, well your main argument seems to be that uniforms would eliminate kids ability to express themselves. This doesn't require much of a rebuttal. Sure, no uniforms allows kids to express themselves, but that can be negative. You have to think that there are those girls who dress like sluts, and boys who dress like trailer trash. In the case of the girls, that could lead to rape. As for the guys, they're going to get a bad reputation from the start. Also, you must remember the people who are poorer. They can't necessarily afford nice clothing. So, they get made fun of by those who are wearing designer clothes and things like that. Now, I would assert that what you wear can affect your personality to some extent. In my school at least, the girls who like like sluts are sluts. The girls who look smart generally are. The guys who look like trash are, and the ones that look smart are. Now, some of them I know personally. A few years ago, when they wore different clothes, they were good people. Now, those same people have changed their clothes, and become delinquents. Now, if everyone were dressed in uniforms, the general attitude would be different, and test scores and success rates my be higher. This is all for now. If I think of something else, I'll bring it up. Thank you and good luck.

When the subject of mandatory school uniforms comes into...

Private Schools Should Have Students Wear Uniforms

When the subject of mandatory school uniforms comes into question, the first words on opposing parents" lips is in regards to kids" lost sense of individuality and freedom of expression. Kids need to mark themselves as part of the herd but still be wholly individual from their peer groups, which is why uniforms can sometimes be seen as problematic. Some parents also worry that when the freedom to express themselves through their wardrobe is removed, kids will resort to more extreme forms of expression like piercings and tattoos. School should be a breeding ground for acceptance and tolerance, as it"s a smaller-scale version of the world at large in many cases. Kids need to learn to accept and celebrate each other"s differences, up to and including the way that different cultures dress. Some religions have strict rules about what is and is not considered acceptable dress, and school uniforms may not always fall in line with those religious requirements. Allowing some kids dispensation on religious grounds will only make them stand out more in a sea of uniforms, potentially leading to bullying and harassment. For some parents, being able to purchase clothing at the beginning of the school year that adheres to the uniform code is a financial relief. After all, most uniforms are comprised of staple garments easily purchased at discount stores. For others, however, being forced to purchase specific clothing infringes upon their kids" right to a free education.

No matter if you"re a nurse, teacher, or McDonald"s...

Public school students should wear uniforms

When we go to get real Job, chances are that we will all have to wear uniforms. No matter if you"re a nurse, teacher, or McDonald"s worker, chances are that you will have to wear some type of uniform. It would stand to reason that, because we are forced to wear uniforms when we grow up, we would be given the freedom to dress how we like. Because youth is associated with being the time in your life when you can enjoy not having to worry about anything, it would make sense that parents and the teachers would realize that students need freedom to enjoy their youth dressing how they wish.

They were known for killing millions of people. ......

That public schools should enforce uniforms

Ok, Attacking my opponents rebuttal line by line. (In my school there are rich kids and poor kids. My opponent doesn't understand the fact that casual wear is discriminating no matter what. Even if one kid is offended) I agree, casual wear is somewhat discriminating. But as I stated before, discrimination will always exist and uniforms will not fix that problem. Yes some public schools have rich and poor kids, but what the negative is trying to state is that as long as private schools exists so will the discrimination between the rich and poor. (Taco Bell is not known for their uniforms. Uniforms don't carry power. The Nazi's were not known for their uniforms. They were known for killing millions of people. My opponent neglects the power of casual wear. We all have stereotypes for clothing. ) Ok Taco bell was an example of IF they had uniforms but as you stated, other stores wear uniforms swell. Uniforms do carry power because they represent the authority that chose it. True, the Nazi were remembered for their killing but also the uniforms. Just take for example the cross they bore on their right arm. Whenever we see that cross we think of the Nazi's and Hitler. And again yes stereo types will exist within casual wear but it will always exist. (Personally, I have been made fun of because of my clothes. When we neglect uniforms we neglect equality. People have killed themselves because of people making fun of their clothes. Its not their fault if they can't afford it. Why should we put kids through hell in order to have some freedom. I agree with freedom. But freedom has the purpose fulfill happiness.) When we neglect uniform we do not neglect equality because how can you achieve equality by FORCING uniforms on to people that's supposedly going to stop stereo types. When we neglect casual wear, we neglect culture, freedom, creativity. What you don't understand is that if you do enforce uniforms, people cant afford it and will obviously do something desperate to get it leading to more problems. Because uniforms do not solve stereotypes or any other problems, I urge a Con vote.

Also, due to my First School's strict uniform, there was...

    All schools shouldn't have uniforms

Uniforms waste money, there was only ONE shop which sold uniforms for my school. The ties, I kid you not, cost 10 pounds! That's robbery! Also, due to my First School's strict uniform, there was this kid who was a Sikh, for those who don't know, Sikhism is against having their hair cut. EVER. Because he never cut his hair, his fringe covered his face. The school forced him to have his hair cut! Children should also be allowed to express themselves so it's easier to find friends with similar interests. For example, Timothy wanted to find someone who liked 5SOS, but couldn't because the uniform won't let him wear band shirts! It's even worse in Secondary school because when we are teens our need to express ourselves is through the roof. My school forced a girl to bleach her hair because it went green from THEIR swimming pool!

The Bill of Rights was added so the people can have...

Uniforms should be banned from schools

    i. Freedom of speech. The freedom of speech and expression is given to you at birth from the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights was added so the people can have certain rights and the federal government doesn't have all of the rights. In other words the Bill of Rights was written to control tyranny. By keeping uniforms, the students will have their first amendment, granted to them at birth, infringed. Violating the Constitution is a crime and schools should not do it and get away with it. Schools have been known to violate the religious part too, saying they can't wear certain clothes because of the religious symbol on it. School uniforms will violate this too. http://www.firstamendmentschools.org...

Dude. I literally went through your argument PIECE BY PIECE and debated it part by part. You STILL do not show ANY evidence for what you state. For all I and ANYBODY who sees this knows, you are LYING about everything. Now, I do not THINK you are, but you don't have ANY research from RELIABLE sources other than your own words. You NEED sources especially when you give SO MUCH data and stats! Also, kids can get bullied because of what they wear,...

Kids should wear uniforms in elementary schools.

This is gonna be one heck of a debate: Argument 1: Economic Neutralization Take almost any elementary school across North America (that doe not have uniforms), and look at the clothes that the kids wear. It is usually obvious to tell who is rich and who is less fortunate by just simply looking at there clothing. Certain kids can afford certain clothing, and certain kids can't. So, instead of having a school that blatantly shows what financial situation each kid/kid's family is in, just have every kid in the school wear uniforms, to neutralize the feeling of one kid being "rich" and one kid being "poor". But this is not just an outsider looking in who can notice this happening in schools, it also happens that the kids notice this too. Most kids are able to tell if one of there peers is poor or rich, in a school without uniforms. This leads to my second argument: Argument 2: Bullying When kids can tell that there peers are rich or poor, this can lead to bullying from some kids who seem "rich" to kids who seem "poor" or vice versa. Also, kids can get bullied because of what they wear, besides looking poor or rich, like wearing something that anger another kid. For example: A kid goes to his school wearing a jersey of a sports team that a lot of the kids at that school don't like. Two older kids come up to the kid and beat him senseless because he wore that jersey. A way to stop things like this from happening? Use uniforms, where everyone wears the same thing so: a) kids will not be bullied because of the clothes they wear that reveals a social class, and b) kids will not get bullied because of what they wear, besides looking poor or rich. Argument 3: Rude Clothing If kids at an elementary school got to choose what to wear to school, things could go very wrong. Students could very well wear clothing that either has a rude word, symbol, or could be mistaken to be affiliated with bad things (example: Swastika, which is actually meant to mean "it is good" but is also known to be the Nazi Germany Party's Symbol .) Students might also be wearing clothing that reveals too much of the persons body, which can lead to things that are not needed to say in this debate. Now, before you say "dress codes" I would like to remind you that dress codes are rare in schools and are usually not very effective, because most teachers don't know about them. So, what is the solution to stop kids from wearing rude clothing? UNIFORMS! Argument 4: Time I will split this argument into two parts. Part 1: You save time actually getting clothes for school before the school year begins. Most schools with uniforms either provide the students with them for little or no cost OR you buy them from a store. Instead of going through all the racks looking for clothes for school, you can just pick up or pick out the clothes you need. Part 2: You save time in the morning because you have your clothes "picked" out for you. Instead of finding something that would fit the "fad" or the season, you can just put on the uniform you wear every year. Argument 5: School Colours School's often have school colours that a represented in sports team's jerseys, on logo's, and more. What better way to support your school or at least give the message to other kids that you are part of a certain school than wearing these colours! Often times schools with uniforms have chosen the colours of the uniform to be the "colours of the school." It is hard to get everyone, in a school without uniforms, to wear the same colours. But, with a school uniform, you can make sure everyone is wearing your school's colours! References: https://ca.answers.yahoo.com... http://en.wikipedia.org... Thanks, Jacobie1121 By the way, this is probably the best debate we are going to have besides the cannabis one, DarthKirones!
