Also 30% of students kill themselves because of bullies....

    Students should wear school uniforms.

Not all every day kids would do those 3 options. They would be to nervous to tell because they think the bully would make fun of them even more. Also 30% of students kill themselves because of bullies. You can see for your self on Bullying and suicide statistics. Do you know over a 160,000 kids don't go to school because of bullying. I think peoples feelings are more important then what to where I mean that is common sense to chose peoples emotions.

With marks slipping in the UK and USA, [1] it is crucial...

High School / Secondary school Students should be required to wear a uniform

Thank you for your rebuttal. I'd like to point out that having a school uniform contributes to keeping kids focused on what is really important at school, the academics. With marks slipping in the UK and USA, [1] it is crucial to keep as much focus on academics as possible. As the famous quote goes, "In 30 years from now, it won't matter what clothes you wore, what jeans you bough or how your hair looked. What will matter is what you learnt and how you used it." This just goes to show that putting the emphasis on learning at school, really can benefit kids later in life. [2] I'd just like to let you know that I believe that tutoring and attention is the best way to increase marks obviously, but school uniform could just be a contributing factor. In connection with the last point, school uniforms will encourage students to take school more seriously, and make a distinguished difference between fun time and school time. As I mentioned, kids will be less likely to leave school during the day as they may be in fear of being recognized and having their school called (this has happened multiple times at my school). 1. http://news.google.com... 2. http://www.the-ibenefits.com...

    School uniform

As someone who has experienced both a school time with and without uniform, I think they are something most schools should have. A school uniforms removes the ability to judge a student on his or her clothes. And the need for parents to spend money on brand clothing, just so their kids can fit in. It forces the student to be creative and express themselves in their work rather than with provocative clothing. It would also cut time in the morning. Instead of choosing clothes you would always know what to wear. Many great minds uses the same clothes to remove the decision making process in the morning so they can come up with greater things during the day.

Not all private schools require uniforms, but those that...

    Uniforms in Private Schools

Topic: The institution of uniforms should be allowed in private schools. My side: Pro There's a reason why there are private schools. All public schools have to comply to the general rules and standards that their respective district imposes upon them and for a significant number of those rules apply to all the public schools in the nation as a whole. Private schools exist because of a large group of individuals do not concur with how the education system is organized and structured. There are certain rules and regulations that the founders of private schools regard as unnecessary or even wrong. Not all private schools require uniforms, but those that do, find the clothing that some children and young adults wear is inappropriate for a learning environment. In order to effectively accomplish what schools are built for, which is to learn and gain new knowledge, these private schools find that enforcing a dress code improves the focus and classroom behavior in a learning environment. You argue that enforcing this policy restricts the youth in creativity. Clothing are often popularized and worn in fashion trends that occur locally and nationally. Many people in the world dress in a certain way in order to fit in a particular group of people, not to be an individual. Rarely do people dress to practice and challenge their creativity and appear in an original fashion. Even if uniforms do restrict creativity in some way, creativity is certainly not restricted to fashion. There are unlimited possibilities for people to be creative other than how they dress. They could write prose, draw art, devise a project, research on a topic and discover new information, and so on.

Now, that may be desired by some, but the majority would...

should public school students wear uniforms

Depending on how strict a school is, students may not be able to just "change the uniform into a clothing style that they want." In my school, along with the required colors and types of clothing are regulations on how one can wear them. In high school guys like to wear their pants to that they are sagging. http://www.urbandictionary.com... The dress code prevents this, it prevents them from making it into their own style. Baggy clothes, permitted in a school without a dress code, look unprofessional and any school with a decent uniform policy would make sure baggy clothes are not allowed. Soccer teams are less strict and will let their players be comfortable to increase their performance. They don't have to worry about appearance like a school does because by the end of a game they will be dirty and sweaty anyway. So yes, female students may slightly change the style of the uniform, but will be heavily limited by a uniform policy. The result will be nice, fitting clothes, increasing attractiveness, and the overall moral of the male student body. In the first round I stated that my school makes all students tuck in their shirts. There is nothing worse than when a nice female behind is covered up by whatever shirt they are wearing. A dress code that requires shirts to be tucked in removes this problem and gives up gentlemen a complete unobstructed view of said nice female's behind. Normally the only hind end available to us is that of the promiscuous sluts with the slutty big butt. Now, that may be desired by some, but the majority would prefer to look at the nice innocent females. I would provide pictures, but I am in school so I cannot.

And if an average public school, why must all of society...

should students wear uniform to school

Surely bullying will exist whether there are uniforms or not? It would remove a persons clothing as a reason for derision, but bullying is not limited to barbed commentary and behavior shredding a persons self esteem and school wear. Is it right to ignore the true problem of bullying? That people have the situations removed from themselves and be not given guidance or opportunity to learn empathy or right from wrong. I do not advocate intentionally putting someone in a situation of bullying. But nor can I advocate removing all situations where bullying can occur. By that thinking recess would be removed as to limit peoples interactions and chances of bullying. And what I say of money? If this was a private school, I 'assume' that the people paying for their children to attend would be rich enough in any case to simply buy them clothing for school. And if an average public school, why must all of society pay their hard earned money simply for a school to 'look' more unified? So long as no one expects the students to but their own suit and tie for So long as no one expects the students to but their own suit and tie for school, can simple clothing truly be so expensive?

Also, because the US is much more sexually conservative...

How would you feel if America had gotten sailor uniforms

I am against both adopting sailor uniforms as mandates in most US schools, and having any feelings about it. The former, because most US schools are taxpayer funded and any political adoption of this would necessitate subsidizing such uniforms, requiring the gov't to steal more money from taxpayers. Also, because the US is much more sexually conservative than Japan and therefore any "Sailor" uniforms that would have any chance of adoption here would have longer skirts, and probably be rather baggy, being specifically designed to make the women in question less attractive (I have attended schools with other uniforms, and there can be no doubt about the net effect of those uniforms therefore causing a visual negative, to the contrary of John's hopes. The latter, because uniforms that aren't occupationally related are signs of subservience to a collective, and anyone who could develop "Feelings" for someone that are emphasized by rather than in spite of such a uniform has a depraved hierarchy of values, implicitly adopting such subservience as one of their highest values.

I have also seen people debating whether uniforms should...

    School dress code

I am a 15 year old boy from Mount Vernon Washington, I go to LaVenture middle school and i was assigned an CBA Argument assignment and i was given 2 different topics to argue *Dress code* or *Gun rights* i chose to argue against dress code. In my opinion dress code is pretty dumb and taken too far and people are too dramatic about this topic. And personally i feel that the teachers and staff are more focused on what the students are wearing than what we are learning and it should not be this way, students should be able to express themselves and be who they want no matter where they are at. At my school the rule that is mostly enforced is you cannot wear more than 2 clothing pieces of the same color because of gang intimidation. The other arguments that i have seen so far that are for dress code say that girls wearing "short shorts" and "spaghetti straps" are disgusting and distracting for boys, i do not agree with that i go to school to get my education not to hear my fellow classmates being interrupted by a teacher or a peer telling them to go change. I really do not care what a person is wearing that is there choice to wear what they want not other students or teachers choice be who you want , that is what i think about this topic. I think that education should be schools #1 priority. I have also seen people debating whether uniforms should be enforced all over if that were to come i can predict that rule will be overruled and quick, The uniforms what about when this time of the year comes around and it scorching hot inside classrooms and you are sitting there trying to focus on work while you are sitting in a vest and pants in 80-110 degree heat do you really think that you are going to be focused on schoolwork no you are going to be airing out your vest or dress shirt and wiping the sweat off your forehead or would you rather show up to school on a hot day wearing some loose shorts and a loose t-shirt. But there should be a limit to clothing it is common sense for obvious things not to wear are you really let you son/daughter go to school in a swimsuit or boxers and slides. I have also seen people people saying that the students are getting suspended or getting detentions for violating the dress code i do not agree with these punishments being given to students the consequences should be on the parent/guardian of the student because i am pretty sure the kids are not buying themselves the "Offensive or provocative clothing" it is the parent/guardians fault for allowing their child to go to school in clothes that will violate the dress code. I have also read articles stating that dress code is sexist towards girls and i agree, i have noticed that there are more dress code violations by girls do to the fact that there are obvious more distracting differences between girls and boys but that doesn't mean that girls should feel targeted by their peers , this does not mean teachers should let things fly there should always be rules and those rules should be followed whether or not you agree with them this is just the way things are at the moment and if students really want a change more them should stand up and make a movement towards a change.

Wearing a uniform helps to prepare students for the world...

Wearing a school uniform is not good preparation for working.

Wearing a uniform helps to prepare students for the world of work, where uniforms are often worn. People like nurses, soldiers, shop assistants, the police and railway staff wear uniform as part of their job. Many other workers are expected to wear suits – really just a grown up sort of uniform, with little choice about it. Just like these adults, students should dress in uniform when they are in school, getting on with work. After all, students and adults can both change into their own casual clothes at the end of the working day, when they are “off duty”.
