Some students want to be different than others. ......

students should not were uniforms in school

"Uniforms prevent originality of a student. If you wear the clothes you want, it might show your personality and give you confidence. Some students want to be different than others. Uniforms makes you blend with others. The people who are different than others are usually the creative ones."-Pro I actually say the opposite, if you have to buy one outfit instead of a wardrobe full you'll have more money to spend on clothes at the weekend. Imagine all the nicer clothes you could get instead of cheaper replicas of converse and all the other things teens prefer to purchase these days. "I do not prefer uniforms because they are uncomfortable. If you are uncomfortable during school, it would be hard for you to study. It would be difficult to play sports and games in uniforms. In your casual clothing you have the freedom to wear clothes of your own choice. This is why many people prefer normal clothes"-Pro Obviously outside of school I prefer my own clothes-they're much more comfortable however in school a uniform is more useful. During PE and other sports we have a PE uniform which is better than playing in our clothes and staying in them all day, staying in the same clothes after PE is smelly and unsanitary. Especially considering that it is very likely you won't get changed when you return home.

Most schools with uniforms allow students to style their...

    Uniforms

"Lots of students would get in trouble for not wearing uniforms" Students could also get in trouble for wearing inappropriate clothing like crop-tops, Clothing that shows their belly, Etc. "Uniforms in school violate freedom of expression. " This is untrue. Most schools with uniforms allow students to style their hair any way they want (except, Of course, When it's dyed unnaturally bright colours that are distracting) and wear accessories like bracelets, Lockets and headbands. It's not a complete violation of freedom of expression. "School would be a very boring place if everybody had the same clothes. " Schools are supposed to be fun on special days, Like Christmas, Hannukah, Halloween, Sports Days, Trips, Etc. On these days, Even uniform schools allow costumes and Christmas/Hannukah themed clothing. Schools aren't supposed to be fun on a classic Monday. I still stand my ground that uniforms are the opposite of distracting; in fact, Nobody minds uniforms. People get used to uniforms after wearing them. Imagine being new at school and are nervous. If it was a non-uniform school, One would be worried no one would like their sense of fashion; moreover, You'd want to make a 'first impression'. First impressions are the most unreliable way of judging a person. For example, One at a school might dress in pink clothes and give an impression of being a popular girl. Maybe this person is trying to fit in. This brings us to the fact that it is hard to fit in with a style different from everyone else. Some people fake being popular or fake being one of the bullies to avoid getting bullied- this might lead to an identity crisis. "You can wear one tracksuit for the whole year (very similar to a uniform, Heh). " By the way, Most people get two sets of uniforms and can survive with them. Another point to mention is that this tracksuit can get just as dirty as a uniform can, So you've given me a useless example. (Heh!

Think if you were that poor kid would you like to be in...

    school uniforms

Your school may use high tech ID badges but not every school does due to the amount of money that would be required to run a system like that in a public school with more than 1000 students, as this would make this system a whole lot harder to keep track of and run. By all of the students having the same uniform on excursions the teacher is able to easily identify their students in a crowd rather than looking at a little red 'blot' on a tablet or device. And as for this "not paying attention to the students needs which by the way is their job.", this is just stupid as if your teacher have to look at their devices to keep track of you, that means all of your students can run off doing their own thing, which means your teacher is not paying attention to the students needs which by the way is their job. "Now on a more serious note bullying is a real thing that real people deal with. when people feel that they are being overwhelmed by everyday school life then get a parent or get an adult that you trust so that they can solve the problem." I agree that bullying is a big point but if you just have ID badges and no school unifrom, you are setting your students up to fail, as the poor kid would be bringing "cheap" clothes and the rich people would bully them and Ostracize them from the rest of the school. Think if you were that poor kid would you like to be in that position? "another thing is you can talk to that person to solve the problem. it is not usually just because of what you are wearing or how you look it is usually a much deeper problem than that. that person may be dealing with serious emotional problems so telling an adult is usually the best thing." This makes sense for Public school's maybe if they have school unifrom, as then it is more about how they feel towards you personally and then they are bringing emotions into it, but in cases of schools without Uniforms they pay you otu because of the way you look which then in turn show how much money your family has. This would make people more self-centered and they would grow up and think this is the way life is and they would be doing that to other people. School unifroms also set people up for when they get jobs as being in a high end or a low end job most of them require there workers to wear specific unifroms which is what you learn when you are in school. I would also like to thank Kai11 for this wonderful debate.

If they can't make fun of a person's clothes, then they...

School Uniforms are a good idea

In one of your rebuttals, you stated the following: "...in some schools they just have the children wear khaki pants and a specific color polo or cardigan." In your opening statement, however, you stated this: "In lower income communities uniforms could be a good idea because parents wouldn't have to worry about buying brand name clothing for their children and children wouldn't feel pressured to have brand name items to fit in because everyone would have the same clothing as they did." First you stated that there should not be competition of clothing styles in areas of education to prevent bullying. Then you said that a uniform does not have to be school-supplied; that you could just wear a certain color polo and khakis. It seems to me to be a contradiction when you say that one's clothes should be provided to him/her in attempt to avoid teasing and jealousy but likewise to that, you stated that students could provide their own uniform clothing. There are several different brands and styles of khakis, no? Couldn't someone get picked on for having a less-expensive, worn-out, pair of pants, and a moth-eaten polo from the 90's? There is no way to put an end to bullying. Bullies look at people under a microscope to pick these very small diversities that make make them the least bit different. If they can't make fun of a person's clothes, then they will make fun of their hair. If they can't make fun of their hair then they will make fun of their glasses. It's a continuous cycle and their is no way to stop it - and forcing students to wear uniforms, regardless of how generic they are, certainly isn't going to help either. In your second rebuttal, you stated that students could still be unique while having on a uniform. While I do think that that is partially true, I find it how much your clothes speak for your personality. You are familiar with Lady Gaga's meat dress, correct? What does that say about her? It says that she's a very whimsical character and tends to live on edge. I realize that you can also deduce that information from listening to her music, however, but think about all of the people that didn't even know who she was? Your clothes tend to work a lot of magic in a first impression. Taking away that part of someone can completely alter their personality. As for your next three arguments: 1) I do not think that clothes are that big of a distraction to begin with. Not once in my career as a student have I witnessed a full-fledged conversation about someone's clothing while class was going on. 2) Peer pressure is yet another thing that is unavoidable. If someone doesn't like a certain type of clothing then they do not have to buy it. Due, I don't think that there is a huge consequence even if they do buy a type of clothing that they normally would not wear. 3) I do not understand how school uniforms could in any way speed up the getting-ready-for-school process. In fact, depending on the uniform, I think that it may even take longer. I think that putting on a simple pair of jeans and a t-shirt is a bit easier than putting on a pair of dress pants, a dress shirt and a tie. Arguments: - Uniforms could potentially become hazardous. In the summer time, schools are hot. If a student has one pair of clothes, and they are super hot, people could pass out, whereas if you could choose your clothes, you can dress in accordance with the weather, therefor preventing the risk of passing out an being distracted during school hours.

    School Uniforms Are Good

I am arguing that school uniforms do not do much good and that students should not be forced to wear them. First round is only for acceptance. Debate will begin in round two. There are only two rounds because the first round is for acceptance. Please vote for which arguement you think is stronger, not based on your personal opinion. Thank you.

It will increase the likelihood of rape or sexual...

    No school uniforms

" If schools don't let middle-schoolers wear everyday attire they are taking students the freedom to express themselves away. " It doesn't necessarily mean that students CAN'T wear their own attire, In some cases they are allowed to wear other attires if they have no uniform or there is an event, The student themselves decides whether or not they should wear uniform. If they don't then the teacher will just remind the student to wear uniform, They can in fact, Wear their own attire, It's just that wearing school uniforms are better. Now let me restate everything that you didn't answer. If there was no school uniform. . . . . . It would push students to wear trendy clothes or which are inappropriate. . . . School spirit would decrease (because of emblem and equality) . . . It will increase the likelihood of rape or sexual harassment (because of inappropriate clothing) . . . Rich families will make their children (or the children themselves decides) to wear expensive clothing, Which the financially challenged families can't, Causing competition. "Many middle school students will agree with a writer who said" Tell me who that writer was. "Some students would like to express their feelings in what they wear" Tell me your specifics why students shouldn't wear school uniform. Not only self-expression. "Therefore, Some students would like to express their feelings in what they wear so students would rather wear everyday attire. " There are other ways students can express themselves, Not only through their own attire. "Too tight or too loose" Then just re-adjust the uniform or measure it before the school even starts. "If schools don't let middle-schoolers wear everyday attire they are taking students the freedom to express themselves away" Though you are only talking about your own country, How about others? And anyways, Even if they do "take the freedom to express themselves", That's understatement, To restate that would be "schools take the freedom to express the APPEARANCE of a student", Which would mean that it doesn't take the WHOLE FREEDOM to EXPRESS THEMSELVES as there are MANY OTHER WAYS TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES, Not just through their attire. So what is your point here? It seems that your point here only sticks to the argument that students can't express themselves, Though actually they still can express themselves, But not on their appearance, There are other more ways I can say myself a student can express themselves. You are saying that the students has an incapacity to express themselves as a whole just because they can't wear what they want? That's ridiculous! The school isn't taking the right of students to express themselves as a whole just because they can't wear what they want, They are only taking the opportunity that everyone in the school will be equal to each other through appearance. Again, They can express themselves in many other ways, Not just through a simplistic uniform. My case still stands.

I have been wearing a uniform for 5 years yes 5 years!!!!!!!! and it has been 24 seven omg that is so long.so hi my name is Ben and I believe schools should not have to have and it has been 24 seven omg that is so long.so hi my name is Ben and I believe schools should not have to have uniforms and it also makes a bigger bill for the poor people.so to all you principals out there just stop right now and make an assembly and say to all the boys and girls I have come to the conclusion that we shall never have to wear a uniform ever again in our life. And did you know that 50 % say that uniforms are good and 50 % so it is even which also means that people want uniforms and don't want uniforms. Did you know that Nineteen percent of public school principals reported requiring uniforms in the 2009-2010 school year, up from 12 percent a decade earlier.

Ok, even if people don't wear the same quality uniform,...

Uniforms should be worn in school

How can you confidently say that people don't wear the same quality uniform? Do you have any evidence? Ok, even if people don't wear the same quality uniform, then this might result for the principal to setup some consequences like detention, seeing the student back home, or even expelling the student ( which I believe nobody wants this to happen). 2. How can wearing uniform increase distractions when everyone is wearing the same outfit? No one will be distracted because students know that they are wearing the same outfit as everyone else, so why bother looking at others uniforms when you have the same one!!!! 3. And the concern that how does it increase self confidence, there is a simple answer to it. In a non-uniform school when middle and lower class children wear something and the rich children wear famous, expensive clothing, the middle and lower class children feel excluded, negative things about themselves, and the fact that they can't afford these type of expensive clothing. That is the main reason why bullying happens in public schools. But if everyone wears uniforms, then the rich children will wear the same uniform as others wear. And if everyone wears the same uniform, children will have self confidence that they will not be targeted as a victim of bullying of any other bad activity. In conclusion, I believe that by wearing uniforms, we can make our lives easier and reduce the chance of being a victim. I have made my points that logically lead to proving that uniforms should be worn in schools and my opponents has not provided any convincing points or evidence. North, South, East or West ... Everyone knows that the Pro is the best. So vote for Pro!!!!!!!!!

Clothing does not change anyone's character. ... And oh,...

Students should have to wear school uniforms

You say that wearing uniforms makes you smarter. Based on that logic, now that I am in a school without a uniform policy, I am nothing more than a blathering idiot, as well as ever other student in attendance, which is not the case. Everyone in Memphis City Schools would be a genius, which is not the case. Everyone in Memphis would be on time, which is not the case. There would be almost no crime in Memphis, which is not the case. There would be no fights, which is not the case. Do you see the pattern? Clothing does not change anyone's character. You also say that parents save money by not buying clothes for school, if they wear school uniforms. I say, yet again, that if I buy schools uniforms, which cost more that the eight dollar pair of jeans and the seven dollar t-shirt that I can get from Walmart, I will not be able to buy clothes for use outside of school. But, if I go to a school that has no uniform policy, I can wear the clothes that I already have, instead of having to go and buy clothes specifically for school. I have never known anybody that tries on every piece of clothing that they have before school. I miraculously arrive EARLY to school despite the fact that it does not have a dress policy. (He said sarcastically) In conclusion, clothing has no effect on your character. School uniforms does not save money, because you have to buy twice as many clothes, the uniforms, and clothes for after school. Nobody tries on all of their clothes before school. And oh, by the way, the last time that I pulled a dress out of my closet was never, because my sister prefers to keep her clothes in her own closet.
