students should not were uniforms in school

I think students shouldn't wear uniforms because kids want to be able to express there style. People say its going to help with the 'bullying' problem but its not. it will make the bull even more creative. They wont have to make fun of your cloths they will make fun of what you look like, what you think is fun, and how much money you have.

There are many reasons to encourage school uniforms like...

THBT:it is necessary to wear school uniform

Debating about whether students should wear uniforms in schools; however, When you read about schools around the world, A high percentage of those surveyed support school uniforms. Many schools agree that uniforms help remove economic barriers, Build feelings of community, And reduce instances of bullying. Our APA Dress Code is founded on similar beliefs that uniforms decrease distractions, Simplify the morning routine, Increase respect for each student, And prepare students for success by teaching professional dress. There are many reasons to encourage school uniforms like the ones worn at American Preparatory Academy. Here are some of them. School uniforms promote learning. Our program is rigorous and requires full attention to be successful. We believe our students" focus should be on what they are learning and not on what they are wearing. School uniforms nourish a sense of equality. When students have similar expectations for dress, Unhealthy competitive feelings about looks are reduced. Students can stand out because of their character and not their clothes. School uniforms promote a feeling of community. At APA, We believe our school dress should complement our learning culture. We are preparing our students for success in college and beyond. We want our students to have a proper expectation of professionalism. When our students wear uniforms, They feel included. They are part of a team working toward success in the classroom and life. School uniforms make it easier to get ready for school. One of the best reasons for school uniforms? No more indecision about what to wear in the morning! Uniforms help prevent embarrassing problems while promoting self-discipline. We have developed a standard of dress that is reliable for everyone. We want to help our kids avoid issues related to modesty and cleanliness. Dirty and unkept outfits quickly become a non-issue when there is a standard. School uniforms improve safety. Keeping track of students and what they carry into our schools is made easier for staff and other students. Intruders can be identified right away by our school community because they stand out. School uniforms do not eliminate individuality. Our students have fun participating in the occasional spirit wear or free dress day; however, These days are not the focus for our kids. The character of the individual student is our focus. Our kids shine because of who they are, Not how they look. School uniforms are more affordable. At the beginning of the school year, Our families typically purchase two sets of uniforms for each of their students. Many of our uniform vendors provide durable options that stand up to repeated washing and wear. Parents may need to replace an item or two throughout the year; however, This is often due to children growing up so fast. Overall, Our families save money with uniforms by not having to keep up with the latest fashion trends. Parents and teachers support school uniforms. Administrators and teachers are highly in favor of school uniforms at American Preparatory Academy. Our staff manual states that our, "staff must match the level of formality of our students. " Most parents say that they love the convenience of school uniforms, And they can tell that students have more confidence when they wear them. The student dress code at American Preparatory Academy is one that helps create an environment of respect and dignity. Student dress exemplifies students" respect for themselves, Their classmates, And learning. When everyone is wearing the same thing, Students can focus on essential issues like academics and character.

    School Uniforms

Through our academic learning period, we have many distractions we must cope with, while going through the education process. These distractions are wide-ranging, but most string from the same topic, popularity. Through the process of making the school uniform universal, you could take away the hierarchy that occurs. Through making the clothing universal everyone appears to be equal and can concentrate on school work, the task they are there for. However, the dress code would be something comfortable and non distracting. This could let students concentrate on their education. As a professor of mine has always said, "Your scholar years are the ones to try your hardest. How you spend this time will decide your fate in society." Also, to address the issue of a universal dress code- there are many more ways to express individuality, other than clothing. For example, individuality can be achieved through extra-curricular programs in which you can communicate your mindset. Overall, a school uniform dress code would lead to a better academic community.

Freedom of expression does not apply in all situations. School is definitely one of them. As far as your other comments, well, lets hope you have a daughter one day. School uniforms will not only relieve the distractions my opponent speaks of but it will save parents money. This issue is really a no brainer. For the most part, the only people that disagree with it is kids and punkass perverts like my debating partner. I think this issue would be a step in the right direction towards taking education serious in this country.

No, the kids at your new school care about they're...

Students should have to wear school uniforms

There's seriously no proof that that school even exists. What type of school has 500 students in one class!!! No wonder why half of them are failing. How can one teacher teach 500 kids at once. Don't blame it on the uniform, it has nothing to do about it. If your new school had a uniform policy it would be number one, but they decide they don't need it and all those intelligent kids aren't being used for they're full potential. If those school have a uniform policy they wouldn't be putting the make up on and combing they're hair, because they would of did it at home because they would spent less time trying to choose what they should wear to school. No, the kids at your new school care about they're cloths. You just don't see it because your all caught up in your clothes not on other people and your school work. Why would tensions escalate if everybody is wearing the same thing, no one is above or below anyone in their fashion. Fights don't start when kids are all wearing the same thing. They only start when one person knows the other kid is wearing something better than them and take the first blow. Think about it would you start a fight with someone who is wearing the same clothing or someone who keeps bragging about how much richer they're families and how stupid you're cloths look. In my school there's a uniform policy and a lot of rich kids. All the kids are wearing the same thing so you can't tell who's rich and who's not. Students at the school I go to there are no rich cliques to bully the poor kids or poor tough kids that get angry real easy and start fights. Also uniforms are good for the children's parents. Why, uniform cost a lot and schools require you to get them. In a school without uniform policy parents have to buy more cloths which cost more money and time to get them. Wearing one thing for the whole entire year is much cheaper for the parents and helps the child go to school faster.

Uniforms will gives false security. ... Schools should...

Students Should Not Wear Uniforms At Memphis City And Shelby County Schools

kids should be allowed to express themselves in school. If they are not allowed some amount of self expression now it will come out later, usually much more forcefully than had they been allowed some freedom as children. Not everyone person needs to be shoved into the same box. We do not all fit just one mold. We should learn to celebrate the differnces in each other. This is the lesson that should be taught to our children. Not that everyone should be the same. I want my children to be who they are, Not cookie cutters. wearing uniform is NOT important wearing uniform is not important because almost all the kids dont like uniform because they could get bullyed for wearing them and by NOT wearing them they could express them self They are a waste. What are uniforms for exactly? To keep us safe? Clothing doesn't make you safe. It doesn't change anything from crimes ot theft at school. Uniforms are bland and are just useless! They cost money and for what? Students don't change their behaviour because of what they wear. Well, uniforms has its ups and down but really? Uniforms? What's the use! i think that we deserve some indivuiality in school. They are saying that if we wear clothes it changes who we are. The schools thinks that if we have uniforms then we will be better in schooling. Really, as soon as school lets out we will be right back in our designer or play clothes. Teachers and school boards should really worry about education. Are parents are in charge of us, not the school. Who agrees with me, let your voice be heard! No! Students should be allowed to express themselves with parental vision. Parents need to be more active in the child's schooling. And should not allow their child to wear offensive clothing. It's not the public schools fault the type of clothing that their students are allowed to wear. Having uniforms will not make everyone equal. It will not stop bullies and gang violence. Uniforms will gives false security. For example, a child with an lower society meets a child with an higher society. The child in the lower society will still feel the same with or without uniforms. And the uniforms may even complicate the child's (lower society) feelings for the child in the higher society. Besides, there are still other ways to ostracize a student by their clothing. Also, in the real world we don't wear uniforms. And that goes for most professions. Then there's also a conflict of who will pay for the students uniforms will it be the school or the parents. Students should NOT wear school uniforms Students have a right to be an individual. Our gov officials do not have a right to tell our students what to wear. NO! Students should express themselfs and in the Buisness world uniforms arnt really required! no they are not there style students should have there own style and not wear uniforms that are so not them they should express there feelings as someone choosing what they should be cause no one should choose for them cause its someone not them and is not fair no uniforms they feel uncomfotable uniforms should only be used in work or something like that they are uncomfortable and some r expensive so no school uniforms Uniforms are rarely need in the Business world Uniforms are anachronistic compared to the daily live of an average worker. Very few jobs require uniforms. Most jobs that do are low paying service work. We don't want to have kids aim for that. Why should we wear uniform if our main role models-teachers-don't? Realistic preparation I do not think students should wear uniforms, cause it gives them a false sense of even opportunities. While that may be the case in school, it would not motivate poorer students to try harder since they won't have the same financial backing with their rich counterparts. no i think students should not be forced to wear uniforms. i feel that students wants to express thereself and show off thier own creativity.i also think that students will not feel comfortable in something they don't want to wear because they may think its uguly,or baggy or something like that. I am against school uniforms, because the stifle creativity and self expression. I am against school uniforms. I believe children need to be able to express themselves as much as possible as they are trying to figure out who they want to be in this world. Clothing is a big part of self-image and identity and should not be stifled. I think it is a better idea to just ban overly revealing clothing and blatant gang colors and aside from that, let the kids be who they are. I oppose the school uniform because we are not Nazi Germany; we should not force students to dress the same. We were born as individuals and should go to school and wear different clothing that represents us as individuals. If everyone wears the same thing, where is the freedom? It will be like a prison where everyone wears orange all the time and cannot question the authority. I will fight school boards who try to do this to children. We are a free country and this should not happen in the United States of America. Each of us is unique and different and that should not be forced to change. Schools should not require uniforms as they are an unnecessary component of education. Schools should not require mandatory uniforms for students because the serve no useful purpose within the educational process. The freedom to express oneself is part of the growing and learning process as much as academic lessons, and students need this freedom to discover who they truly are as people. Uniform dress in schools give the message that diversity is a bad thing and to conform is to prosper. While school uniforms may be a good idea in some schools it should be required in all schools. Each school should have its own right to determine whether school uniforms are appropriate or not for the school. While there have been some excellent examples of school behavior being enhanced by school uniforms particularly in urban disadvantaged neighborhoods this needs to be a choice of the school. Studies have shown that academics sometimes improve with uniforms and that a competitive element is reduced. Yet to make this a requirement for all schools to do does not take into account different neighborhoods and different school characteristics. For example a high school that may foster the arts would be totally out of line requiring uniforms and could be a damper on the creativity that they are encouraging. In some cases uniforms may also place an economic burden on a family. To conclude each school district needs to determine what is best for the district and the individual schools and uniforms should be a voluntary thing. I don't think schools should require students to wear a uniform. I do not think that schools should require their students to wear a school uniform. I do not think it is fair for students to be forced to do something. Students have the right to stand out, if all are wearing the same outfit they can not stand out. Also some families can not afford to by the uniform. I do not think that uniforms should be a requirement but is should be an option. If a parent finds it more economical to purchase uniforms in a public school setting then they should have that option. Uniforms are great because students don't feel a sense of competition between other students. If would not matter how much money your. I don't feel there's a need to force a uniform on anyone. I do believe that individuality in dress is important, it breeds creativity. As a child the only thing you really have control of. Is your style , it would be a shame to loose that in a uniform. Schools should not require students to we

Okay. I have no way of proving uniforms are good, and you have no way of proving uniforms are bad. The reason for this is because neither are true. Everyone hates uniforms for some odd reason. To me, uniforms really don't matter. I don't know. I think I may be the only one who doesn't care about uniforms at all. If your school makes you wear uniforms, then you wear the uniforms. There's no proof that a single bad thing could happen because of uniforms. You just wear them. Sure, you may want to compete over who has a bigger hurley logo on their sweatshirt. If you can't, then too bad. Deal with it. There's nothing you can do to change the fact that you have to wear uniforms. It just is.

Uniforms not only doesnt solve the matter but it has a possibility of causing more problems. (Cont 2) School is something required by law to attend, work isnt. We have to attend a certain number of years in these schools no matter what. You knowingly accept these uniformed required jobs when you accept the interview or position. (Cont 3) Uniforms represent the power they are chosen by. If taco bell states that all employees must wear a black shirt with blue pants thats there uniform. That uniform represents taco bell and the power and influence it holds. So yes, Uniforms does support the power it is chosen by.

Students should be required to wear uniforms in all schools

We already have catholic and private schools - usually those schools require their students to wear uniforms to attend that certain school. Then we have public schools - which do not require uniforms. At the current state we are in, everyone has the CHOICE if they want to go to a private school and wear a uniform or go to a public school and don't. Ammendment 1 grants every american citizen the following freedoms: Speech, Press, and Religion. People dress to represent themselves as a person. Their clothing tells peers who they are through expression. How someone dresses is their freedom of speech, because they are speaking of themselves through their clothing. If all schools required students to wear uniforms - then our younger generation will have their CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS TAKEN AWAY. This is against the law and is not allowed - or puts a good name upon our country in question - USA. At least where we are at the moment, students have the CHOICE if they want to go to a school that requires them to wear a uniform or not. They CHOOSE if they accept the fact that if they go to a spacific school, then they may not have all of their rights while atttending. Where we are now is fair, everyone have freedom of choice, and the choise of what to do with their rights; and that is what being an american citizen is all about. Even if schools did want to require their students to wear uniforms - where would they get the money to buy such uniforms on manufacture them? You see, if this were reality then it would be a MAJOR financial, and constitution violation and issue.

What would happen if a Professional NBA basketball team...

    School uniform should be abolished

What would happen if a Professional NBA basketball team like the Chicago Bulls and the Toronto Raptors, came onto the court for an NBA game and showed up in mixed and matched clothes? How would people be able to establish senses of right and wrong, how would the players know who to pass to and how would the audience know what was going on? The simple answer is : They wouldn't. School uniforms have been a staple of many school communities across the world since the mid to late 1900's. School uniforms give a sense of a unity among educational institutions because it gives a sense of spirit throughout the school community. Uniforms give students a level playing field which reduces peer pressure and bullying. In general, uniforms save time. You don't need to pick out a new outfit every day, and they are easier to enforce in a dress code compared to no uniform, which saves valuable class time. Before I expand on my arguments, I would like to point out that my opponent didn't cite sources for example my opponent said ' When I was doing my research I found a site that was telling me ', I'd like to request that my opponent cite his/hers sources in the future. Uniforms give a school community a sense of unity. Unity is promoted in schools globally, Uniforms give a sense of unity because Wearing similar clothing lets students feel united as well as brings a sense of pride in their appearance and their school. When students know they are supported by a group of people, they are more inclined to study in their classes and attend school more consistently. Overall, these researchers suggest that these students may become more motivated. Like on the front line of combat. By wearing the flag of the nation you're fighting for you feel more patriotic and that inspires spirit. Bullying and peer pressure is a widespread issue that teachers are trying to tackle, getting rid of the opportunity of kids who aren't as well off as others to feel less self conscious about their clothes. Uniforms are social and economic equalizers, which reduce opportunities for children to criticize others on dress and appearance. The main argument against uniforms stresses the need for young people to express their individuality through the clothes they choose to wear, though that may be a good point, there are other ways for students to express their individuality through things like arts, music and drama. If students want to be able to express themselves and their individuality, they can take it through another approach not just their uniforms.

It can very much effect the child social and learning environment. And when you said that 'what if there was a major accident and a kid was lost? How would you identify him?' i completely agree with that statement. If a child is lost how easy will it be to identify one kid if hundreds of other kids are wearing the exactly same attire. And you very much need to express yourself through clothing. Its a right and helps develop fundamental social skills. School Uniforms

No one would need to worry about their child looking as though they are going to a club instead of school, because the appropriate dress requirement would be enforced by teachers. Children would be free to express themselves, and if they wore something inappropriate then they would face the consequences of their actions. In fact, an appropriate dress policy is even better than a uniform code because the students would actually learn something from it. Rather than being told what to wear, students would be responsible for picking their own attire(even if this means getting up earlier for some), and it must be appropriate for an educational environment. This is a life skill that these children are going to be needing further down the road when they need to dress appropriately for work or some other social event. The fact that children are learning something while being able to actively express themselves is a great thing.

Private Schools Should Have Their Students Wear Uniforms

The patrons of private schools should be the ones to decide if they want to send their students to a school with uniforms or to a school without these uniforms so their children can learn to handle peer pressure in a controlled environment. 2. Parents should be able to judge if their child is having trouble focusing and is likely to be distracted by clothing. 3. Parents and their children should have the right to decide if they want to implement this band-aid solution to bullying or not. 4. Parents and school staff should be able to the safety benefits of uniforms are worth it. 5. See number 3 6. This is the most ridiculous claim I"ve ever read. Regardless, the patron families should decide for themselves if that"s a valid concern or not. 7. Again, risk management should be up to the parents to assess. As a side note, I will say that uniforms are more commonly found in higher SES schools, so any correlation between uniforms and benefits that might be due to being a nicer school in general should be studied in a controlled, longitudinal manner. There are neighborhoods where gang violence is a problem and neighborhoods where it"s not. It seems silly to use a blanket solution for a wide variety of neighborhoods where the families living in them are most capable of diagnosing what they need and what they don"t. The nature of a private institution is one in which it can decide for itself what its policies are, as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others.

    School Uniform Should Be Banned

Thanks for responding so quickly. During this round I'm going to be refuting your R1 points, and in the next round I'm going to be defending my own case from attacks that you've made, if you made any. ----- Rebuttals: "First of all, pupils should be able and should be encouraged to express themselves and be creative with what they wear" First, what is more important: having the ability to wear a t-shirt, or having the ability to deter crime massively? Second, you will still have the ability to decorate your clothes in moderation. Obviously you cannot scorch weed leaves into your outfit, but if you want to tuck up your sleeves or wear your hair a certain way, or have a certain bow, then that should be okay. School uniforms do not diminish the outlet for creativity. "Own clothes are more comfortable and in the cold, school uniforms aren't warm enough" The definition of school uniforms isn't cold, miserable clothing, it's just a strict set of guidelines for someone to wear at school. Wear your own clothes in the cold! Nobody is keeping you from doing that! But once you are in school, you should just wear the uniforms, since they have so many advantages. "Surely we can wear badges to say which school we are from, especially on school trips!" wat.png "If we are comfortable wearing our own clothes in class we should be able to focus better in class." I don't really like being that guy, but what's your source for this? I have a card in my case that says that uniforms actually INCREASE productivity and attentiveness during class, so we must render your argument invalid. "School uniform can be very expensive as compared to our own clothes as well as if not washed quick enough it can pose a real problem." Not if the school pays for them, which I suggest to every single school that is considering having uniforms. "No matter what you dress students who bully others will always find a reason to do so" Look at my third contention, then get back to me with this argument. But seriously,60% less bullying occurs as a direct result of implementing uniforms. Tell me that isn't good... "Making everyone wear the same clothes is not going to make the problem magically disappear."

Private Schools Should Have Students Wear Uniforms

When the subject of mandatory school uniforms comes into question, the first words on opposing parents" lips is in regards to kids" lost sense of individuality and freedom of expression. Kids need to mark themselves as part of the herd but still be wholly individual from their peer groups, which is why uniforms can sometimes be seen as problematic. Some parents also worry that when the freedom to express themselves through their wardrobe is removed, kids will resort to more extreme forms of expression like piercings and tattoos. School should be a breeding ground for acceptance and tolerance, as it"s a smaller-scale version of the world at large in many cases. Kids need to learn to accept and celebrate each other"s differences, up to and including the way that different cultures dress. Some religions have strict rules about what is and is not considered acceptable dress, and school uniforms may not always fall in line with those religious requirements. Allowing some kids dispensation on religious grounds will only make them stand out more in a sea of uniforms, potentially leading to bullying and harassment. For some parents, being able to purchase clothing at the beginning of the school year that adheres to the uniform code is a financial relief. After all, most uniforms are comprised of staple garments easily purchased at discount stores. For others, however, being forced to purchase specific clothing infringes upon their kids" right to a free education.

That public schools should enforce uniforms

Ok, Attacking my opponents rebuttal line by line. (In my school there are rich kids and poor kids. My opponent doesn't understand the fact that casual wear is discriminating no matter what. Even if one kid is offended) I agree, casual wear is somewhat discriminating. But as I stated before, discrimination will always exist and uniforms will not fix that problem. Yes some public schools have rich and poor kids, but what the negative is trying to state is that as long as private schools exists so will the discrimination between the rich and poor. (Taco Bell is not known for their uniforms. Uniforms don't carry power. The Nazi's were not known for their uniforms. They were known for killing millions of people. My opponent neglects the power of casual wear. We all have stereotypes for clothing. ) Ok Taco bell was an example of IF they had uniforms but as you stated, other stores wear uniforms swell. Uniforms do carry power because they represent the authority that chose it. True, the Nazi were remembered for their killing but also the uniforms. Just take for example the cross they bore on their right arm. Whenever we see that cross we think of the Nazi's and Hitler. And again yes stereo types will exist within casual wear but it will always exist. (Personally, I have been made fun of because of my clothes. When we neglect uniforms we neglect equality. People have killed themselves because of people making fun of their clothes. Its not their fault if they can't afford it. Why should we put kids through hell in order to have some freedom. I agree with freedom. But freedom has the purpose fulfill happiness.) When we neglect uniform we do not neglect equality because how can you achieve equality by FORCING uniforms on to people that's supposedly going to stop stereo types. When we neglect casual wear, we neglect culture, freedom, creativity. What you don't understand is that if you do enforce uniforms, people cant afford it and will obviously do something desperate to get it leading to more problems. Because uniforms do not solve stereotypes or any other problems, I urge a Con vote.
