We must embrace and celebrate individuality. ... Also my...

School uniforms should not be allowed in schools

As this debate comes to said close I will like to thank my opponent for this debate. In your first claim that uniforms save time, I have never seen or heard a student be late for school because I couldn't find anything to wear, or some other reason to be tardy. Also we must not infringe upon the rights of the student. The right to individuality is vital for academic development. Individuality boost self-confidence and if the student is self confident they can get focus on what is important, learning. We must embrace and celebrate individuality. If everyone clothes look similar a student may feel weak or worthless even since they are just another face in a indifferent crowd. You say that uniforms will reduce the ability of harming other students. This is just a simple band-aid that will not solve the problem of school violence therefore uniforms do not provide safety but only a false security. Uniforms are in fact a burden to families who are paying for a free education for there children. Uniforms may prove difficult to enforce in public schools. And a study showed buy the today show says that families pay 15% extra money for uniforms. These facts of my argument provide sufficient evidence that we should hold on to our freedom of choice and that uniforms should not be allowed in schools. Also my opponent filled to notice I did cite and have statics in my argument .

Should every children wear school uniforms at every school

Style. "Some accessories for girls are considered inappropriate. " - Would you like to list some examples? I knew a girl that always stayed fresh at school even with uniforms. Bracelets, Necklaces, Earrings, Things of that nature. I never heard of a school that somehow restricts accessories (boy or girl) I assume we are from completely different parts of the world. Are you not allowed to wear a scarf? Why wear uniforms? Reiterating point: All comes down to following the rules and teaches you lessons. Pros for uniforms: 1. School uniforms keep students focused on their education, Not their clothes. 2. Uniforms create a level playing field among students, Reducing peer pressure and bullying. 3. Wearing uniforms can enhance school pride, Unity, And community spirit. 4. Uniforms make getting ready for school easier, Which can improve punctuality. 5. Students dressed in uniform are better perceived by teachers and peers. Bullying. I agree with your point on this. There should be a bullying debate on here, That would be interesting. Solution. So you're in a private school I see now. Understood. The high schoolers where you are wear uniforms? Yeah I think we are from completely different places now. "It is not a concern of whether if it gets better or not, I should not have to get better. " It all comes down to stages in life. Yeah during elementary to middle school your freedom may feel limited and it's really strict but as you get older (high school+college) you gain more freedom, Regarding what you wear and the expectations from teachers and professors since they expect different from you as you are older and put you more in a higher standard. Not discrediting younger people who are middle schoolers because I know many such as yourself are very sharp but unfortunately this uniform thing is just so prevalent and hard to control. Sometimes you have to roll with the punches. At the same time, I see where you're coming from.

Therefore, when all students are dressed in regulation...

Teens and kids should wear school uniforms

Well educators and experts who are pro school uniforms believe that uniforms contribute positively to students' behavior. They believe that when students wear uniforms, they feel more professional and behave accordingly. Many educators believe that students can become distracted by fashion trends and status symbol clothing. Therefore, when all students are dressed in regulation uniforms, there is less focus on fashion in the classroom and more focus on learning. 2. When there's no debate on what a student is allowed wear to school, then that makes mornings easier for parents and for kids. Everyone knows exactly what the kids need to wear, their regulated school uniform. This can lead to a decrease in morning arguments. 3. Schools without a school uniform policy still have rules on what clothing is and is not allowed in school. There are usually rules regarding modesty issues, visible logos, offensive text on clothing, gang colors and symbols and more. Teachers and administrative staff must monitor the students' attire. This is of course avoided when all students are in uniform. 4. Many experts believe that when the entire student body is dressed in uniforms, they develop a stronger team mentality. When they are all dressed alike, their all-for-one-and-one-for-all comradery is boosted. 5. Buying a few school uniforms instead of a new school wardrobe every fall is much more economical. School uniforms are designed to stand up to everyday wear and repeated washing so most parents find that they can get away with buying a few sets. 6. With all the money a parent saves by not having to buy day to day clothes, they can (if they so choose) let their children buy a few nicer and more fashionable pieces for weekends and evenings. Wearing a uniform five days a week might make students appreciate their weekend fashions more--maybe enough to even take good care of them!

If a bully cannot pick on you for your clothing, they all...

Public Schools should not have to wear school uniforms

Thank you for excepting this argument. 1) I do not believe it will eliminate bullying in schools. If a bully cannot pick on you for your clothing, they all most likely, find a way to make fun of you for something else. The bully will most likely find it as a challenge. The bully feels very powerful when they bully. Therefore, they will not stop. 2) If a bully cannot pick on you for your clothing, they all most likely, find a way to make fun of you for something else. The bully will most likely find it as a challenge. The bully feels very powerful when they bully. Therefore, they will not stop. 2) School uniforms can be very costly whether or not the school or parents are paying for them. If the school is purchasing, the way the economy is they cannot afford to pay for the uniforms. One uniform is not being purchased for one student. Multiple uniforms would have to be purchased for one student. Some schools have had to cut extracurricular activities so they will not have enough money to buy uniforms. If the parents are buying, they are buying an outfit that they cannot wear on weekends or in the summer. They still have to buy clothes for them to wear on those days. 3) Wearing uniforms takes away the freedom of choice. Being in school you don't have a lot of freedom as it is so why take that away as well? 4) Uniforms can create problems. They can be hard to clean because they ate usually white. Wearing a uniform, the schools will have specific requirements how they are supposed to look. Sources: www.enbrodidered-uniforms.com Www.topics-mag.com

But again there is no need for students to wear the same...

    School uniforms should be banned

I accept this debate, and will argue why school uniforms should be banned. Many thanks to my opponent for starting early. A sense of discipline given by a school uniform isn't necessary, as children should be disciplined at home by their parents. When a group wears a uniform e.g. at work, or in the army, it reinforces the idea that the group is part of a team. However at school, a child's primary goal is not to work well as a team but to become a competant individual, able to complete coursework and exams on their own, and think entirely on their own. Schools do set team excersises e.g. quizes, challenges, and have sport acticities. But again there is no need for students to wear the same uniform, even when playing footabll it is not necessary to be given bibs because there are no spectators! It is not difficult to remember who is on your team when a captain from each side picks his players, and when you're familiar with fellow students. The sole purpose of uniforms is to diminish competition by allowing teams to be created randomly (i.e. unfairly), which is a bad thing. Children should not be forced to have pride in their school. Not every school is great. They should be able to buy clothing with a logo just like any other club to freely express their pride. Also why should students waer a tie, do up the top button on their shirt, or even wear a shirt? if it makes them feel uncomfortable and inhibits their learning? Students should be given reasons to enjoy going to school, not reasons to hate it. They are happier on non-uniform days, why take that away? It seems to me that students must a wear a uniform so they feel like cattle, or something inferior. Is this how students should respect other people, by feeling inferior? I think I've made enough points, I eagerly await your argument, many thanks

School uniforms are often impractical or uncomfortable

School uniforms are often not very comfortable or practical. In state schools (schools for which parents don't have to pay fees) in the U.K., for example, girls often have to wear dresses or skirts, when they might feel more comfortable in trousers, and boys often have to wear button-up shirts and ties, which can also be uncomfortable for active children[7]. In independent schools, uniforms are often even more impractical and uncomfortable, with blazers or even tailcoats for the children to wear[8].

Dressing for Success Students wearing formal attire or...

School uniforms should be required by U.S. public schools.

Thank you for accepting, I look forward to this debate. Some of the reasons I believe that public schools should require school uniforms are as followed: Reduces Bullying One of the main causes of bullying is differences. When a student comes to school dressed in hand-me-downs, and another student comes into school with designer clothes, there is a major difference between them. This makes bullying and aggressive behavior between them much easier and more severe. School uniforms reduce greatly the economic gaps and barriers between students. It also helps to eliminate trends and the peer pressure to go out and buy new clothes purely for social reasons. This also diminishes bullying because if many people go out and buy new trend clothes, the people that don't get them, might be looked on as different or weird. Dressing for Success Students wearing formal attire or school uniforms show more success in school than a casual dressed student. One of the reasons for this is because students feel more confident when they are wearing "business clothes" rather than just a sweatshirt and sweatpants. They feel more mature, which leads to better listening, and better academic performance overall. Money Saving Parents save lots of money when they purchase school uniforms. Instead of buying designer clothes that fit to the new trends which would cost the parent a large amount of money, they can buy school uniforms made with standard fabrics. Time Saving Wearing a school uniform saves time in the morning when getting ready for school, so they don't have to think and decide what to wear in the morning. It also saves time for the parent and child when the parent doesn't have to go out and buy new clothes as frequently for the child. Respect and Attention Wearing a school uniform shows respect and it makes the child more focused for what their actual job at school is, which is to learn, instead of distracting themselves with clothing garments and style and attractiveness. School uniforms also contribute to school spirit and motivation. Many students wearing the same thing act much more devoted to their school and feel more of a team spirit. For these reasons, I believe that schools should require students to wear uniforms. It saves money, makes them more successful, saves time, diminishes bullying, and adds more school spirit. No school uniforms

" If schools don't let middle-schoolers wear everyday attire they are taking students the freedom to express themselves away. " It doesn't necessarily mean that students CAN'T wear their own attire, In some cases they are allowed to wear other attires if they have no uniform or there is an event, The student themselves decides whether or not they should wear uniform. If they don't then the teacher will just remind the student to wear uniform, They can in fact, Wear their own attire, It's just that wearing school uniforms are better. Now let me restate everything that you didn't answer. If there was no school uniform. . . . . . It would push students to wear trendy clothes or which are inappropriate. . . . School spirit would decrease (because of emblem and equality) . . . It will increase the likelihood of rape or sexual harassment (because of inappropriate clothing) . . . Rich families will make their children (or the children themselves decides) to wear expensive clothing, Which the financially challenged families can't, Causing competition. "Many middle school students will agree with a writer who said" Tell me who that writer was. "Some students would like to express their feelings in what they wear" Tell me your specifics why students shouldn't wear school uniform. Not only self-expression. "Therefore, Some students would like to express their feelings in what they wear so students would rather wear everyday attire. " There are other ways students can express themselves, Not only through their own attire. "Too tight or too loose" Then just re-adjust the uniform or measure it before the school even starts. "If schools don't let middle-schoolers wear everyday attire they are taking students the freedom to express themselves away" Though you are only talking about your own country, How about others? And anyways, Even if they do "take the freedom to express themselves", That's understatement, To restate that would be "schools take the freedom to express the APPEARANCE of a student", Which would mean that it doesn't take the WHOLE FREEDOM to EXPRESS THEMSELVES as there are MANY OTHER WAYS TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES, Not just through their attire. So what is your point here? It seems that your point here only sticks to the argument that students can't express themselves, Though actually they still can express themselves, But not on their appearance, There are other more ways I can say myself a student can express themselves. You are saying that the students has an incapacity to express themselves as a whole just because they can't wear what they want? That's ridiculous! The school isn't taking the right of students to express themselves as a whole just because they can't wear what they want, They are only taking the opportunity that everyone in the school will be equal to each other through appearance. Again, They can express themselves in many other ways, Not just through a simplistic uniform. My case still stands.

Clothing does not change anyone's character. ... And oh,...

Students should have to wear school uniforms

You say that wearing uniforms makes you smarter. Based on that logic, now that I am in a school without a uniform policy, I am nothing more than a blathering idiot, as well as ever other student in attendance, which is not the case. Everyone in Memphis City Schools would be a genius, which is not the case. Everyone in Memphis would be on time, which is not the case. There would be almost no crime in Memphis, which is not the case. There would be no fights, which is not the case. Do you see the pattern? Clothing does not change anyone's character. You also say that parents save money by not buying clothes for school, if they wear school uniforms. I say, yet again, that if I buy schools uniforms, which cost more that the eight dollar pair of jeans and the seven dollar t-shirt that I can get from Walmart, I will not be able to buy clothes for use outside of school. But, if I go to a school that has no uniform policy, I can wear the clothes that I already have, instead of having to go and buy clothes specifically for school. I have never known anybody that tries on every piece of clothing that they have before school. I miraculously arrive EARLY to school despite the fact that it does not have a dress policy. (He said sarcastically) In conclusion, clothing has no effect on your character. School uniforms does not save money, because you have to buy twice as many clothes, the uniforms, and clothes for after school. Nobody tries on all of their clothes before school. And oh, by the way, the last time that I pulled a dress out of my closet was never, because my sister prefers to keep her clothes in her own closet.

For example, I have light green eyes and blond hair. ......

School Uniforms are a good idea

I would like to start out by saying that I'm very happy with where the debate is going as well. Supporting Previous Rebuttals: 1. Whether the school supplies the uniform or not, there could still be much competition between articles of clothing. Once again, I would like to bring up the point that there are several different types of khakis and polos. You are contradicting yourself when you say that students would not be pressured to buy brand-name clothes, yet the market would not run through the school, therefore resulting in a decision that the students would have to make on their own. This allows room for students to get picked on for what they wear. 2. I realize that your sense of clothing does not say everything about your personality, however I would like to bring up the point that not everyone looks good in the same color and style of clothing. For example, I have light green eyes and blond hair. I do not look good in royal blue. I find it unfair to force students to wear articles of clothing that: A) Gainsay their usual style of clothing, ultimately going against there personality, and: B) They may not look the best in; possibly belittling their sense of style. 4. I don't know about you, but all I do in the morning is grab a pair of pants, a shirt, and get dressed. That takes me about thirty seconds total. I don't think that it takes a ridiculous amount of time to choose what you wear and get dressed. Even if you do take a lot of time to get dressed in the morning, I think that could easily be changed: just wake up a little earlier. Rebuttal: You say that uniforms encourage unity in a school. While I understand where you are coming from, I have to share that uniforms only show unity through appearance, but it is nearly impossible to unite a group of kids together, especially with so many different types of people. (There is no way to get your typical, popular, cheerleader, to befriend a stereotypical band geek, regardless of what they wear. No offense to cheerleaders or band geeks.)

Shall we, in upholding the constitution re-start slavery?...

    School Uniforms Shouldn't Be Required

I thank my opponent for his reply. I shall be tackling his arguments the way they are numbered. 1. I believe my opponent lives on extremes, he fails to realize that these children can choose what to wear when they are at home, or when they go to parties. On weekends and in summer vacations, it is quite clear that these children do get the training for choosing clothes. Not to mention who needs training in looking for what to wear? The school however has the duty to teach them discipline and how they have to dress in most of their future jobs. In such it is clear that there is a greater productivity in asking children to wear uniforms. My opponent's arguments regarding how they might not learn to wear different clothes does not stand. 2. Why is my opponent infatuated with the United States of America and its constitution? Does he realize the constitution is pro slavery? Shall we, in upholding the constitution re-start slavery? I find that this is at best an appeal to authority. Also I once more reiterate that this resolution is not bound to the United States, the example of one country is not enough. My opponent realizes that there are other ways to express oneself, by affirming this he pseudo-concedes. The reason for this is that because there are other ways the right to expression is not being harmed, since an individual does grow out of these young people, uniforms do not necessitate any bad affect. As I already said uniforms actually create unity (something my opponent conceded to) and help individuality foster in such a way that two different individuals can connect better. Surely this is better than an absolute anarchy of personalities which are 100% apart. 3. This link still does not work. 4. Another link that still does not work. My analogy with the military works because the military is one of the most disciplined institutions, the uniform helps. Also the uniform is an instant recognizability, the military takes pride in wearing their colors as do many students. If one is part of one of the best schools, or if one got into Oxford they would happily wear the insignia. Uniforms create a sense of belonging. Also you are the one who brought in Einstein in the first place... 5. You mean to tell me that it is cheaper for poor families to spend 72$ each month rather than spend a bit out of their savings or save enough so that they have to spend 150$ only once. These clothes actually even run more than a year where a lot of people wear these clothes for even two years, or three. Overall I am sure the voters are intelligent enough to realize that your point about money does not stand. Also taxes may be applicable in some countries, although in most they are quite little in amount. One must also pay taxes when buying normal clothes though. 6. Your little one way is important for 160,000 children (see source above). I think that's a big number, considering this is only of the US, add up the other countries and you have a sizeable number. You see we try to stop bullying from every perspective possible. Voters my opponent must show that it is absolutely necessary for school uniforms to be abolished, this he does not so and therefore the resolution is defeated. Merci, Ajab
