Changing the school year to all year

When it comes to making the school year last throughout the entire year, I would have to support the movement to do so. In colonial times, the only reason students did not have to atten school during the Summer was so that they could help their family with the farm. Now that our entire country runs off of industry, virtually none of our students still live on a farm. Therefore, there is no economic incentive to keep the Summer break. Not to mention the educational benefits for students and opportunities for teachers. Teachers are given a criteria that they must teach their students by the end of the year. Often they struggle to teach it all if they ever do. So giving teachers this extra time to present and teach the students the information would highly benefit everyone and our future generations.

Soft drinks should be sold at school

In my opinion, I strongly believe that soft drinks shouldn"t be sold at schools, because soft drinks damage our behaviours, concentrations, inhibitions, learning abilities and overall general health issues due to the community comments on www.debate.org/opinions/should-soda-be-sold-at-schools. For instance, it makes us aggressive, stimulant and disruptive; as well as it could distract student from concentrate on what they are doing. First, I confidently believe that soft drinks shouldn"t be sold at schools, because soft drinks are causing troubles on our behaviours, concentrations, learning abilities, inhibitions and overall general health issues caused by the ingredients of sugars, carbon dioxide, artificial sweeteners, acids, sodium, artificial flavourings & colours and preservatives in each can or bottle of soft drink. Also, due to scientific researches showing on http://www.rethinksugarydrink.org.au..., it stated if a student drinks one can of 600ml of regular soft drink every day for a year this equals to 23kg of sugar and 6.75kg of fats, or one can of 250ml of energy drink equals to 24g of sugar and a 1600ml bottle of regular soft drink equals to 64g of sugar. It also stated that In the end, I strongly suggest schools should brought buy fresh fruits for the caf" to sell as an energy booster, because the sugar in fruits are natural and fruits give us heaps of vitamins and minerals, not fats. Also, bone breaking causing by carbonate from soft drinks corroding bones in our body and made bones loss of calcium & vitamin D; and tooth decay caused by sugar from the soft drinks stuck in our tooth and grows bacteria in the plague, which gives us horrible yellow tooth and smelling breath; are some examples that messed up our growth process. So, I thought there is no use for schools to offer such expensive drinks, instead schools should using the money on sporting equipment, library books, stationaries, camps, excursions, uniforms and heaps more healthy choices for us. Overall, I absolutely believe that soft drinks shouldn"t be sold at schools, because soft drinks gives us more harm than good and have no nutritional benefits; if you need energy to boost you up, eats fruits, they are natural energy booster! FEEDBACK FROM MY TEACHER!!! Well Done! You have put in a lot of time and effort to create a persuasive text with detailed evidence and explanations to support your arguments. You have also used extensive technical vocabulary and precise word groups that strengthens the credibility. Your introduction has clearly stated your opinion and arguments to be discussed in the text. Please include a rhetorical question at the beginning or in the title to further engage the reader. I really like how you included a solution to help persuade the reader, for example selling health food in the cafe as an energy booster. Great idea! Using connective words to link your paragraphs will help the reader to understand and follow your arguments. For example, Firstly (argument 1), Secondly (argument 2), and Thirdly (argument 3).

Public Schools Should not Fund School Bands.

Many schools are already cutting band due to severe budget cuts across the United States and many more are seriously considering doing so. I thought this was widely known. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][etc] So while bands aren't always necessarily the first to go, they fit in the category of school sports, which are also facing school budget cuts.[9] Yes chess clubs, those are the projects sucking up so much school money. Do you know how much a chess board costs? Do you think schools have their chess players playing with hand carved diamond Rooks and Knights? A typical chessboard at a school costs less than 10$.[10] Decent instruments cost hundreds of dollars. Band is being cut all across the nation due to severe budget cuts along with clubs and athletics. In order to provide for better solid academic courses, band has to go. Again the Federal government funds almost 10% of public education spending, yet my opponent says that band will be able to stay in the event the federal government cuts their funding, despite the fact that many schools have been forced to cut band, athletics, clubs, and even solid academic courses. The fact that students enjoy band is irrelevant. There is no money to pay for it and still be able to fund academic courses in the cases of most schools in the nation. Many studies show that simply listening to classical music constantly can increase your IQ several points. [11][12][13] Simply listening to classical music can increase one's IQ has many as several points. Students who love music, such as is the case with students who participate in band, will not have any negative intelligence consequences since: 1. They can listen to music in their spare time which does make students more intelligent 2. They can play music in their spare time with their own funds and borrow from others Students can play music in their free time as well. Either by renting an instrument, borrowing one, or buying one. There are few people who are so dirt poor they are not able to get their hands on an instrument. And again, you said schools do not fund all the costs of a band, meaning you claim that bands are somewhat self sufficient and able to get a hold of instruments without necessarily needing funding. Many extracurricular programs would look good on your college application. But you miss the point. Public spending recieves 10% of it's budget from the U.S. government, which is a blatant violation of the United States Constitution since Article 1 Section 8 does not list public schools as a legitimate project for the U.S. government to fund.[14] Public schools across the country are already cutting bands despite this contribution on behalf of the U.S. taxpayer. If the U.S. Constitution was upheld the U.S. government would not fund public schools forcing public schools to go without 10% of their budget. This would effectively vaporize the existence of most school bands at public schools. Article 1 Section 8 states what the Federal Government has the right to fund. Whatever is not listed in Article 1 Section 8 is not allowed to be funded by the Federal Government.[14] The U.S. government unconstitutionally funds 10% public school spending, which in turn fund school band. With many schools cutting or seriously considering cutting band, if the U.S. government stopped unconstitutionally funding public schools completely, forcing public schools to go without 10%, nearly all school bands across the U.S. would undoubtedly vanish. In conclusion 1. Due to severe budget cuts many schools are already cutting or considering to cut band as well as athletics, my opponents fallback. 2. Article 1 Section 8 of the United States Constitution clearly and vividly states what the U.S. government has the right to spend U.S. taxes on. The U.S. Government spends 10% on public schools. Public schools are not listed in Article 1 Section 8, much less extracurricular activities for public schools, much less band. Therefore as long as public schools use federal funds to fund projects such as band and knowing very well that the existence of band in every other public school that hasn't already had band cut, literally hinges on the fact that the U.S. government unconstitutionally funds public schools, school bands at public schools have no right to exist. 3. The Federal government funds almost 10% of public education spending. [15] With many schools already cutting or considering to cut band and other extracurricular activities, there is not a snowballs chance in hell that band would last if the Federal government cut that funding. Reasons why I dislike school

Setting word limits are stupid. For example, if I make my point in one to two pages, why are you forcing me to write 5 pages of something I already made my point on in much less writing. This is made especially bad if you're given a certain topic. For example, I have to write a 10 page essay on why infused jazz music has mad music rise back up. Basically, if I've made my point, let me just turn my essay in, don't set limits. Speaking of certain topics, why would you give them. There's a very likely chance that one person, at least, will not know the topic. Something else that I don't like is the fact that some of the stuff you learn in school will more likely become irrelevant to you in the future. Something else I dislike is the fact that some teachers either don't do their best at teaching their students, and some teachers won't teach much. Something that I never understood was the fact that you had to wear a P.E. uniform in P.E. What's the point, is it because its better than wearing jeans and a T-shirt. The only thing that you would have to wear a P.E. uniform is if you were wearing a skirt or a dress, or something. Changing the school year to all year

"There are 6.2 million teachers..." While I agree it WOULD have an impact on the economy, what I'm arguing is that the impact would be negative. The money to pay these teachers has to come from either the Government or parents. Either way, the economy is worse-off. My opponent has also failed to acknowledge or rebut the other negative economical impacts I presented in Round 1. "Sooner or later, the students..." I agree, but I argue that later is better than sooner. School years are for schooling and setting one's life up by getting the best grades possible. They have 60 years after high school with which to learn to manage time between tasks. "I'm sorry that I have no evidence.." That's fine, but it's a point you can't use to make your case. My opponent didn't answer to my suggestion that if SOME teachers can manage the time effectively, ALL should be able to. My opponent has not answered to my evidence that year-long schooling has no impact on student performance.

    School Vouchers are the shizz!!!

    - Rich parents have a choice of schools for their kids; poor parents should have the same choice. - Competition between schools is increased, leading to greater efficiency and results in all schools. - Private schools have a better history of getting results in teaching information and values than public schools. - Those parents who send their kids to private schools must in effect pay twice; i.e. their taxes pay for public schools that their children don't even attend. - Providing private school access to everyone will increase diversity. - The parent makes the choice between religious or non-religious schooling; thus, the government isn't imposing religion. - No Child Left Behind surely is not working.
