    School Uniform Should be Compulsory

My opponent can go first. I am arguing that school uniform should be compulsory, And my opponent will argue against this. This is my proposed structure for this debate, My opponent does not need to follow it if they do not want to, But if they do not they should indicate what structure they would like to follow: Round 1: Pro introduces debate, Con introduces arguments.

There is no good evidence that links school uniform to improved results.

There is no good evidence that links school uniform to improved results. A few schools in the USA reported better test scores after they started having uniform, but most of these made other changes to the running of the school which could have helped instead. Studies looking at lots of schools, with and without uniform, have not found any link between what children wear and school results.

Schools in developing countries often lack qualified...

School does not an education make

School attendance is not a positive outcome in and of itself. It should be encouraged only if it is conducive to learning and acquiring the meaningful education needed to break out of the poverty trap. Blaming the poverty cycle on kids failing to attend school ignores the fact that schools are failing children. Public schools are often overcrowded, with poor facilities and lacking the resources necessary to teach children with challenging backgrounds. In 2011, 80% of America's schools could be considered failing according to Arne Duncan who is the secretary of education1. Schools in developing countries often lack qualified teachers, and can suffer from very high staff absenteeism rates2. A more effective school system would result in fewer kids dropping out, not the other way around. Additionally, involved parents are integral to effective education3. Simply blackmailing them with money to do the right thing will not work. In fact, you might actually experience backlash from parents and kids, who'll see school as a burdensome requirement that is met just so you can keep the electricity on. Throwing kids into school where they do not have confidence, support, and the necessary facilities is not productive. 1Dillon, Sam (2011), "Most Public Schools May Miss Targets, Education Secretary Says", New York Times, [Accessed July 21, 2011].  2 World Bank, "Facts about Primary Education",[Accessed July 21, 2011].  3Chavkin, Nancy, and Williams, David (1989), "Low-Income Parents' Attitudes toward Parent Involvemet in Education", Social Welfare, [Accessed July 21, 2011].

Also, relating to the want to do more things, in order to...

    # SHORTER SCHOOL HOURS# YES OR NO (please click yes)

Well, I see that you want more time outside of school, yes? Well, Id say, give it longer hours. Yes, let school go on longer. Give each school day an extra 2 hours. Give the school one hour in the morning, and one during the afternoon. This is much easier for parents to deal with since most of everyone has to work an 8 hour shift. Also, relating to the want to do more things, in order to keep school balanced, how would the two hours work? Simple. They take an entire day off. Id like a three-day weekend. A two-day weekend is to short. Sure, there are kids that want to work. Well, with an extra day, you will be able to get the hours you need without a problem. A longer school day is a better solution than giving the school shorter hours, which would make the week even longer. When observing all the pros and cons, a longer school day is a better system for everyone. You may not mind having more days in school, but some do. Parents need to be able to get to work and take care of their kids. A longer school day could make that happen.

hair colour and peircings in school

does it really mater what colour our hair is or what peircings we have? its not like its ruining our education. i belive that we should be able to dye our hair what ever colour we want and have any style we want. it is what makes us unique and its not like its ruining our education. i belive that we should be able to dye our hair what ever colour we want and have any style we want. it is what makes us unique and school is baciscally telling us that we cant be unique. its not fair, we get told off for the most stupidist things, i mean come in to school with a lighter colour of blonde hair and a cute hair stule and you get sent home ? what sthe point? thats just ruining our education not our hair colour or how many peircings we have.

students should be required to wear uniform. ... Also,...

should students wear uniform to school

students should be required to wear uniform. it makes the school seem more in unison. you may disagree with me and say students need to express themselves but there are other ways you can express yourself. Furthermore, my school which doesn't use uniform encounters bullying and students break the dress code. we gave them an opportunity to express themselves and they took that for granted. wearing uniform also saves families money. Also, the amount of bullying based on outfits will decrease because everyone will be wearing the same thing.

Dress code is just a way for teachers to enforce more rules.. I myself used to believe this. Also I would like to point out how it waste money. Parents are forced to buy extra clothes for there kids to be able to go to school. If the kids does not follow the dress code exactly then they will be in trouble at school. It is a waste of money because most of the time the kid would never wear the clothes any other time. So this can only hurt the parents. they could be using this extra money to pay bills, or for food, or gas. So if anything it hurts the parents. I do not see how it can be beneficial to the environment. I would also like to know what is benificial*?
