School dress code

I am a 15 year old boy from Mount Vernon Washington, I go to LaVenture middle school and i was assigned an CBA Argument assignment and i was given 2 different topics to argue *Dress code* or *Gun rights* i chose to argue against dress code. In my opinion dress code is pretty dumb and taken too far and people are too dramatic about this topic. I'll accept this debate. And personally i feel that the teachers and staff are more focused on what the students are wearing than what we are learning and it should not be this way, students should be able to express themselves and be who they want no matter where they are at. I don't agree with this opinion. Teachers are employed by the school teach, not to check what clothes the students are wearing. If teachers feel that a student violates the dress code or student handbook, they are obligated to report them for it. The problem with people wearing whatever they want is it is distracting to everyone around them, causing everyone to lose the ability to learn. Dress code also teaches people professionalism in the workplace. People will not go to work in booty shorts and a tank top, therefore they should learn from an early age how to be professional. Just like a male wouldn't go to work in a sleeveless shirt and a speedo. At my school the rule that is mostly enforced is you cannot wear more than 2 clothing pieces of the same color because of gang intimidation. I'm personally not from an environment where gang intimidation is a problem, so I don't know much about this subject. The other arguments that i have seen so far that are for dress code say that girls wearing "short shorts" and "spaghetti straps" are disgusting and distracting for boys, i do not agree with that i go to school to get my education not to hear my fellow classmates being interrupted by a teacher or a peer telling them to go change. Although you may not personally be affected by girls showing a lot of skin, the general public of males are. It is human instinct to not be able to look away from a girl who is not effectively covering parts of her body that males find attractive, distracting every male in the classroom, and also the females who notice. But this applies to females as well. If a male were to attend the school day showing abs or bulge, it would be distracting to females. It is just biological instinct. I really do not care what a person is wearing that is there choice to wear what they want not other students or teachers choice be who you want , that is what i think about this topic. This would be like saying it is a child's decision to choose whether they can drink and smoke or drive a car. Some behaviors can't be fully assessed by people who's brains and common sense hasn't been fully developed yet. I think that education should be schools #1 priority. The words school and education are very close to synonymous. The problem with certain people's dress is that it prevents education when people go overboard for it. I have also seen people debating whether uniforms should be enforced all over if that were to come i can predict that rule will be overruled and quick, The uniforms what about when this time of the year comes around and it scorching hot inside classrooms and you are sitting there trying to focus on work while you are sitting in a vest and pants in 80-110 degree heat do you really think that you are going to be focused on schoolwork no you are going to be airing out your vest or dress shirt and wiping the sweat off your forehead or would you rather show up to school on a hot day wearing some loose shorts and a loose t-shirt. But there should be a limit to clothing it is common sense for obvious things not to wear are you really let you son/daughter go to school in a swimsuit or boxers and slides. Dress code and uniforms are very different topics. I have also seen people people saying that the students are getting suspended or getting detentions for violating the dress code i do not agree with these punishments being given to students the consequences should be on the parent/guardian of the student because i am pretty sure the kids are not buying themselves the "Offensive or provocative clothing" it is the parent/guardians fault for allowing their child to go to school in clothes that will violate the dress code. Students should be fully aware of the dress code, as well as parents. If a student gets suspended or placed in detention for not wearing adequate clothing, it is their fault. They knew the rules, yet still did what they did. Although the kids are not buying the clothes, they are typically the ones picking them out. I agree that parents should have more responsibility, but that isn't an argument as to banning dress code. I have also read articles stating that dress code is sexist towards girls and i agree, i have noticed that there are more dress code violations by girls do to the fact that there are obvious more distracting differences between girls and boys but that doesn't mean that girls should feel targeted by their peers , this does not mean teachers should let things fly there should always be rules and those rules should be followed whether or not you agree with them this is just the way things are at the moment and if students really want a change more them should stand up and make a movement towards a change. Typically, dress code applies to both male and female. Males can't wear muscle shirts and speedos to school, just like girls can't wear tank tops and booty shorts. The reason there are more dress code violations for girls it because 1, girls are typically more often the culprit due to "fashion" presented in society, and 2, because for girls there is more to regulate. Females have more to cover up than guys do, and that's just a biological fact. Don't blame the school for that, blame society.
